Iranian American for Liberty (IAL) commends President Trump for his bold decision to suspend funding for the so-called Iranian Human Rights NGOs.
For too long, these organizations have been a waste of hard-earned taxpayer dollars—diverting resources to advance a partisan agenda rather than fostering genuine reform. Many of these groups operate not as true advocates for human rights, but as fronts for closeted left-wing activism, colluding to push propaganda under the guise of humanitarian work.
Consider, for example, one glaring instance in 2016: a major recipient of these funds, Masih Alinejad, produced a propaganda video against President Trump that was aired on Voice of America—an action that amounted to a prohibited in-kind campaign contribution. (1)
In another disturbing case in 2020, a different recipient, Mariam Memarsadeghi, openly endorsed Joe Biden, blatantly misusing public money to further a political campaign. Perhaps even more revealing was the behavior of a group of organizations that purport to have right-wing alliances; they colluded to defend a government-funded woman who had endorsed Joe Biden, with evidence suggesting that these so-called right-wing activists were, in fact, on her payroll. (2), (3)
Additionally, some of these funds were used to promote a dangerous gender ideology that culminated in promoting a transgender porn star at one of the events in Berlin organized by these recipients. (4)
We acknowledge that these efforts to cut funding may face significant challenges from entrenched bureaucratic interests and the so-called deep state, and there remains a possibility that these actions could be negated by those determined to maintain the status quo. Nonetheless, we are grateful that President Trump’s bold actions have brought this important issue to light—exposing the misuse of taxpayer dollars for partisan propaganda and underscoring the urgent need for transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility.
We are grateful to the Trump administration for taking decisive action against such abuses. This suspension not only stops the misuse of American dollars for politically motivated propaganda, it sends a resounding message that frivolous spending and covert political campaigning will no longer be tolerated. Iranian American for Liberty stands behind the administration’s courage and hopes that it remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting our taxpayer dollars from further exploitation.
Finally, Iranian American for Liberty calls on the US government to permanently suspend all funding for these NGOs. Over the past 15 years, there have been no effective safeguards to prevent the misuse of taxpayer dollars—with funds continuously diverted to partisan agendas rather than fostering genuine reform. In essence, we are urging the US government to get out of this business altogether.
